Charaka in siddhi sthana chapter trimarmiya adhyay mentions five types of  diseases on head, namely-

Shankhak
Ardhavabhedaka
Suryavarta
Anantavaata

WHAT IS MIGRAINE?

Migraine is recurrent headache associated with visual and gastrointestinal disturbance. Over 12% of any population worldwide report migraine.
Migraine is common around puberty and menopause and sometimes increases in severity or frequency with hormonal contraceptives, in pregnancy and with onset of  hypertension.

SYMPTOMS OF MIGRAINE

Migraine attacks vary from intermittent headache to discrete episodes. Headache one sided localized and becomes generalized.
Nausea and vomiting.
Patient is irritable and prefers darkened room.

According to Ayurveda  there is a severe headache on one part of the head. Severity is compared with a weapon cutting through.

CAUSES OF MIGRAINE

According to Ayurveda migraine is caused by-
-intake of excessive food, dry food
– suppressing natural urges like thirst,flatulence,urine etc
-eating food before digestion of previous meal

All diseases according to Ayurveda occurs because of vitiated doshas. Major doshas involved in migraine is vata and kapha. Hence its treatment involves medicines that are vatakapha shamaka.

Casuses of migraine in modern science is not clear. Genetic factor play some part.
